Class Description: Dharma Yoga
Dharma Yoga practice features elements of the Dharma advanced Shiva Namaskara Vinyasa: a challenging yet graceful and meditative posture series steeped in 50 years of Sri Dharma Mittra’s experience of the classical tradition. One of the joys of this class is exploring variations of Sri Dharma Mittra’s advanced postures which you may not encounter anywhere else in the world, as well as instruction in how to take the steps necessary to realise these postures. Vege Sato hopes to help students quiet their turbulent minds and experience the peace, contentment and realization of the Divinity already present within. All levels welcome!! Highly recommended for those who love of Arm Balancing, Inversions and Backbending.

About Instructor
Vege Sato is a certified teacher of Dharma Yoga. He has spent more than 6 years practicing Dharma Yoga almost every day, and tries to live the life of a yogi fully. His first yoga teacher Tomo Sato, was the person to bring Dharma Yoga from NYC to Japan. It took only a few days for her own dream to become their shared dream. Tomo and Vege are now married. After retiring from hectic media business in his 20’s, Vege started learning directly from Sri. Dharma Mittra in NYC. After months of intensive training in NY with his guru, he received certification to teach Dharma Yoga as the sole scholarship recipient in 2010. He is the first Asian to be listed on the webpage of Dharma Yoga HQ as a World Wide Teacher. Vege has been teaching Dharma Yoga for over 4 years straight in Tokyo without a single day off. He is the proud father of a 3-year-old-boy and a months-old girl.

Why Restorative Yoga? Why Now?
Daily life is incredibly stressful, especially in an urban environment. We spend a great deal of energy just trying to survive, often running on adrenaline (the “fight or flight response”) until we burn out. Now more than ever, we need a slower, deeper yoga practice that helps us regain our equilibrium and combat the stresses of modern life. Restorative yoga is one such practice that invites the body’s “relaxation response,” calms the nervous system, and quiets the mind. Restorative Yoga is a deeply relaxing, “passive” practice of Hatha Yoga in which we let go of physical, mental and emotional tension by practicing yoga poses in a fully supported environment, holding the poses for longer durations of time, and focusing on the breath. Supported by a variety of props such as bolsters, blankets, blocks, belts, sandbag weights, and other props, this practice helps us regain the equilibrium of the body/spirit, allowing deep relaxation, surrender and opening. This practice is perfect for those who have injuries, are recovering from illness, those with physical limitations, or those who simply want to relax and regain harmony and balance in their lives.

COURSE CONTENT
In this teacher training, you will learn: What is Restorative Yoga? How does it work physiologically, psycho-spiritually, and emotionally? Proper use of Props: How to set up each pose. How to spot and correct common mistakes in prop usage Restorative sequences for different effects Many original restorative postures developed by Leza Specific poses/practices for specific therapeutic needs (insomnia, chronic fatigue syndrome, etc). Pranayama for Restorative yoga How to design a Restorative yoga class around a specific theme or focus. How to incorporate other forms of yoga therapy into Restorative yoga, such as Thai Yoga Massage, Visualization, Guided Meditation, Yoga Nidra, etc.

This course will also discuss concepts such as” How Yoga Works” using the Inner and Outer methods of thought/intention and Five Layers of Experience (koshas). Meditations and Inner Work sessions will be incorporated into the teachings on Restorative asanas.

COURSE FORMAT Classes will be part lecture, part practice, part demonstration in which students will set each other up in the poses and practice with each other, and part question and answer period/discussion.

October 5 - Unraveling The Conditioned Self: Being Karma-Free Pt II
A Workshop with Miles Maeda at Sun and Moon Yoga Studio, Meguro

From the view of yoga, we live in a unified field of creation but experience it through filters of duality. We see ‘this and that’, ‘good and bad’, ‘you and me’. This causes us to attach to desirable circumstances and avoid the undesirable. This is the basic cause of our suffering. It’s what keeps us wanting what we don’t have and fearing that we’ll loose what we have acquired.

Karma means action. In yogic philosophy, it is believed that negative actions cause negative experiences, positive actions cause positive experiences. So the first step in reducing our suffering is to discontinue our negative actions, speech and thinking. By understanding negative emotions, we can apply the antidote and create positive actions with positive results. When this becomes stable through practice, then one can free themselves from karma completely by letting one’s emotions self-liberate.

buddhaIn part II of the Karma-Free lecture series we will further explore what is karma and the teachings/tools which help us become free of its entrapments. We will learn prostrations which help prepare our body/speech/mind to practice, a meditation for processing our past karmic tensions, plus simple guidelines (including the Six Realms of Cyclic Existence) to cultivate more positive experiences which will lead toward the possibility of karma-free actions.

Every action, every experience has a result. When we see clearly this big picture, we can use this understanding to change our lives and manifest our dreams.

A practical and experiential two-hour workshop on meditation in the Shamatha tradition with Jarret Levine and Mira Shani

Japanese translation by Tomoko Kawahara.

mira_medShamatha refers to the training of settling the body, breath, and mind in their natural states. When these techniques are practiced and mastered, the meditator experiences a deep stillness, which is not only the foundation for all insights, but also a very useful platform upon which to build a more peaceful and happy life. You will learn to still the mind in a state of balance between brightness and relaxation using handy and workable techniques that you will be able to utilize not only on your meditation cushion, but also in your daily life, for it is within this elegant harmony that we find the most peace, productivity and functionality.

These skills, dating back to Lord Buddha 2500 years ago, are not only applicable to your meditation practice but also have profound affects on your relationships with family, friends and colleagues and, on the ways in which you complete tasks at work and home. For a typical person living in a typical city, with all of its stimulus and demands for our attention, the mind is starved for quiescence and harmony. It naturally becomes fragmented and agitated, which makes decision-making, accomplishing easy and challenging tasks, and relating to others in a graceful manner ever more challenging and uncomfortable.

When these meditation techniques are applied, quickly the mind can become more peaceful and available. It is from this state of mind that we become clearer thinkers and judges in all arenas of our lives. Additionally, it is this foundation of stillness that is required for any deeper spiritual insights and wisdoms to arise.

This workshop is ideal for people who are new to meditation, as well as for people who wish to sharpen, deepen and exhilarate their practice. The workshop will include practical instruction, guided meditations, personal advices for your own meditation obstacles, and question and answer sessions so that by the end of our two hours together, you will have the confidence to continue to cultivate our own meditation practice at home.

With this knowledge we will chart our individual moon cycles and create daily self care practices.

The 4 Sequences
Each of the 4 Sequences (Earth, Water, Air, Fire) are a rhythmical fusion of asana, pranayama, massage, mantra, meditation and music designed for the specific care of the female body (in particular the reproductive system) to promote physical and emotional well being.

The Yoga Therapy wave is upon us. Many people understand the incredible healing properties of yoga; however, people with injuries, acute pain or disease often shy away from a group class at a studio in search of a more personal approach. Yoga therapy is a way for an instructor to work in conjunction with western medicine in a small group or private setting to help students heal themselves. This course adds a depth of wisdom to the teacher’s toolbox that will be felt not only in yoga therapy settings but also in group classes where students feel safer and more “seen.”

In this teacher training we will explore the role of yoga therapy, the art of observation, anatomy, alignment, the importance of the breath, many common yoga injuries, the art of trust and how to develop it, the use of props and partners, and many tips, tricks and tools to help you become a master teacher.

Em Bettinger loves movement and the mechanics of it, and started dancing from an early age, going on to study contemporary dance at 18. Through her dance studies she was introduced to yoga. Em sees yoga as a “dance on the mat” - the breath guiding you and energy radiating from within. She believes you need to be in the movement physically, mentally and emotionally - then as a person you grow, as does your practice. You Are Responsible - guidelines and exercises in applying spiritual practices and teachings in worldly life (work, money, health and relationships)

image
A Workshop with Miles Maeda at Sun and Moon Yoga Studio, Meguro

Saturday April 20th, 5:00-7:30 pm

3,500 yen

The first step in bridging spiritual practice with ordinary life is understanding that you and only you are responsible for your life. We struggle with the world, with others, and ultimately with ourselves. But we can shift from feeling like a victim in uncontrollable circumstances into feeling like a creator in a universe of limitless possibilities. And the way to do this is to first and foremost accept responsibility of our thoughts, words and actions.

The world is an educational environment whether we know it or not. We are always presented with opportunities to learn lessons and to master those lessons. And whether we learn them or not, this is Karma. The way we act, speak and think affects our environment. Thus if we want to change anything outwardly, we must first focus inwardly on ourselves. By following this and other spiritual truths that lead us to graduate from this ‘school’, this is the way of Dharma.

image1
In this workshop we will begin the journey of understanding what it means to be responsible. We will cover guidelines for improving communication, how we relate to our word/agreements, and being sensitive to time, energy, objects and space. We’ll practice simple exercises which bring awareness to our thoughts, words and actions, bridging spiritual truths with our worldly activity. The end result will be greater self-awareness and valuable choices of how to live creatively, intentionally and manifest our dreams. The energy of our yoga practice can then support our everyday lives!

Beginning and seasoned students will all enjoy this lecture-style yet interactive workshop. Japanese translation provided by Sawano Takano.

To Register: Hit Contact and put the name of the TTC or workshop in the subject line, including your full name, phone number and email address. You will receive an automatic confirmation and later, individual confirmation. If you don’t hear from us within a week of registering please email us again. Sometimes mails do get lost!

COURSE FORMAT Classes will be part lecture, part practice, part demonstration in which students will set each other up in the poses and practice with each other, and part question and answer period/discussion.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Leza Lowitz has been teaching and practicing Hatha and Restorative yoga for over a decade. She was the first teacher to introduce Restorative yoga to Japan in 2003. She has offered her highly popular Restorative yoga classes at workshops and on retreats internationally. She appeared on “99 Size” teaching Restorative yoga in 2004. She is a writer and certified yoga teacher who has studied many yogic and healing traditions with many illustrious teachers and masters from all over the world. Do you feel guilty having plenty? How do you approach giving and receiving?
Do you love what you do?
Does something always seem to stop you from pursuing your dreams?
Money and abundance, like everything else in the universe, are forms of energy. They have certain spiritual laws of flow. What is your attitude towards money and abundance? Where did it come from? Do you give yourself permission to have abndance?
*This workshop is not just about financial flow, but opening up ALL CHANNELS OF FLOW in the universe and manifesting your highest potential to help you serve others.

All to help you understand and transform your beliefs about money and abundance, listen to your intuition, and draw opportunity and possibility to you in ways that support you and the universe.

The experience has helped me focus my writing skills and develop a plan to become a full-time self-employed writer. I now have one book in negotiation, and one proposal being seriously considered.”

A participant in a past “Creating Abundance” workshop said:

“I can’t thank you enough for all you taught and offered today. I have not felt this clear about my purpose in life before. So much in today’s workshop spoke to me, and I now have the faith and trust in myself to go forward and put it all into action!!!”
